Buckle fracture management
Please use the following checklist and factsheet when managing simple buckle fractures with removable splints.
The definition of a buckle fracture is a metaphyseal fracture with a bulge or bending of only one cortex. Shaft fractures, including greenstick, are not immobilised appropriately with a splint and require a plaster. If in doubt check with a senior.

The next image shows a greenstick fracture - this requires a plaster cast

Note the breach of the cortex - this is unstable and will not be adequately immobilised in a removable splint. Please use a plaster cast instead
